Girls Day Out combines lunch and the live musical “Mamma Mia!”
Coordinated and hosted by Nancy Olmos, owner of Clarice’s Cake and Candy Supply, Colleen, Rebecca and Audrey joined in the fun of “Girl’s Day Out,” starting with lunch at a favorite Tacos y Burritos El Pato Mexican Cuisine, located in the same shopping center with Clarice’s on Lyons Ave.
Then it was off down the street, just a couple of blocks to Main Street in Old Downtown Newhall, to the Canyon Theater Guild to enjoy a live production of the run-away hit musical “Mamma Mia!” So much fun!
Established in 1970 and celebrating its 50th year, the Canyon Theater Guild had many locations throughout the years including Callahan’s Old West Trading Post Theater on Sierra Hwy near Agua Dulce.
The Canyon Theater Guild, the Santa Clarita Valley’s oldest theater troupe, purchased the current location in Downtown Newhall, built in 1936 following the widening of Spruce St, now Main St. Originally the home of Newhall’s famous Chitwood’s Furniture store, the Theater Guild made extensive 1.2 million dollar renovations converting it into a 288 seat theater as well as their new offices located next door in the renovated former Sheriff’s Substation built in 1929.
Opening night at the new Main St. location was November 24, 2000 featuring the holiday favorite “The Scrooge” and played to sold out crowds.
Big thank you to Nancy for an incredible “Girls Day Out” and so much fun celebrating 50 years at the Canyon Theater Guild.
