Have you heard of GoNoodle? If you’re eight years old, you probably have, and this is where we got the idea for these tasty bananas on a stick. My daughter calls this kid-friendly recipe, “Crispy Nana Pops,” also known as banana pops.
The last thing I want to give her for dessert, right before bed, is a popsicle full of artificial sugars and dyes. This dessert here isn’t sugar-free, but it’s a good substitute. It makes a delightful breakfast too. The best part is they’re so easy to make the kids can do it themselves.
Step 1: Set up.
-Pour cereal and greek yogurt into two separate, short bowls. A plate will work as well.
-Peel and cut bananas in half. Insert sticks about halfway into the cut part of the banana. Be careful not to push the stick through the side of the banana.
Step 2: Dipping bananas in yogurt.
– With the back of a spoon, spread the yogurt over the banana. Rotate it to coat evenly. Do not try and lift the banana straight out of the yogurt, it wants to stick and your popsicle stick will most likely break out of the side. (trust us we did It!)
Step 3: Coat in the cereal.
-After you have coated the banana in yogurt, dip it into the cereal and use the back of a spoon to coat it. The cereal will stick to the yogurt. It’s that easy.
Final step: The big freeze!
Put the banana pops into the freezer for about an hour and then finally, into baggies and back in the freezer to freeze all the way. It takes 60-90 minutes to freeze a banana. I know this because my daughter was so impatient to eat one of her Crispy Banana Pops that she made me google it.
You can substitute any type of cereal or granola you want, or spread peanut butter and jelly on them instead of yogurt. You can even skip the freezing part and just eat them! The options are endless so have fun with them!
